Learn the basics of monotype printmaking, a process that can be quick or layered. We will explore techniques to make marks using an etching press as well as techniques that you can do at home without a press.

Monotypes are one-time prints that I find truly special and sometimes haunting. Whether you love to draw & paint or are a little intimidated by paper - you will make interesting designs, patterns, and images that are exciting and one-of-a-kind.

We will also add to the layers of our prints with chine-collé and collage techniques.

Wake up your inner chemist and learn how to safely create, test and fire glazes. Discussions and demonstrations will include studio safety, documentation, glaze starting points, the major chemical groups and what they do in the kiln atmosphere, how to use the gram scale, and how to fire your tests in both electric and gas kilns. This class will also include a soda firing during the 5th week of the class.

Sale: Teton MudPots Holiday Sale

On Thursday, November 29 and Friday, November 30, the Art Association hosts the ever-popular annual Teton Mudpots Holiday Sale in the Art Association’s Art Gallery and Loft. The sale features ceramics, prints, paintings and jewelry for sale by local artists. Thousands of pots will be available from all of the potters who create in our studio. Choose from cups, mugs, bowls, plates, casseroles, bottles, soap dispensers, pitchers, teapots, sculptures and strange creations.

On Thursday, November 29 join us at the sale for cocktails and nibbles from 5-7 pm. As always, there will be the ever-popular bargain tables with prices starting as low as $3. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. All sales are final. 30% of the proceeds benefit the Art Association Studios and art education.

Class: Electric Welding - Small Projects

Sam will teach you how to use the MIG and Stick welding methods. Students will gain experience on other machines like the drill press, metal band saw, bench grinder and chop saw, in order to create several small projects. Week 1, we will make a garden hand rake, Week 2 & 3, students will choose between a simple toilet paper or paper towel holder. Discussions will include welding safety, settings, the positives and negatives of different welding techniques, and how to get started with your own set-up.

Learn how to safely make, test and fire ceramic glazes in this class. Lectures and demonstrations will include studio safety, proper documentation, units of measurement, glaze starting points, what the major chemical groups do what and in what kiln atmosphere, using the gram scale, and firing your tests in the electric or gas kiln without making the lab tech mad at you. This class will also include a soda firing during the 5th week of the class!

Your class fee provides one bag of clay, misc supplies, firing and glazing. Additional clay $10 to $18 per bag.

Using slab and coil techniques, build large scale ceramic sculpture, be it abstract, animal or human in nature. Sculptures. Sectional sculpture making will also be covered. This technique is used to make sculptural works easier to move and fire. Artwork made in this class will be allowed to slow dry and be fired sometime in March.
